Promoting standardisation
Those wishing to digitalise an authority's procedures and processes have to ensure that this is done in line with generally applicable standards – just as with electrical sockets or connection cables. Under the implementation plan, the highest level of standardisation possible is encouraged. This should reduce the burden on the implementing authorities. The eCH Association promotes, develops and adopts relevant standards in the area of eGovernment.
Seamless data transmission
The flow of information between organisational units of the public administration is growing and becoming more complex. Business management processes are being overhauled and data is increasingly being digitalised. Thanks to binding standards and interfaces, data transmission is seamless and the advantages of digitalisation can be better exploited.
Digitalisation standards must be of high quality and free from the influence of individual interests. If political decision-making bodies and project leaders can rely on them, it becomes easier to set and announce standards at an early stage. This is especially the case when several authorities are to work together at all three federal levels.
When preparing electronic public services, the Swiss public authorities use international and national standards as a basis. The applicable national standards are generally those of the eCH Association.

Implementation plan objective 12/21
Promoting standardisation
«The activities of eCH are aimed at facilitating electronic cooperation between authorities, as well as between authorities and third parties. To this end, new areas for standardisation are identified and prioritised, and standards are developed, adopted and maintained. Cooperation with the associated network is essential in this regard. Standardisation forms a necessary basis for various eGovernment projects and affects almost all areas for action in the 2020-2023 eGovernment Strategy Switzerland, either directly or indirectly.»
