Strengthening the trust of the general public and businesses in electronic public services
Only very few users of digital services are able to comprehend the technology used and the processes running in the background. Consequently, digitalisation requires a very high degree of trust. Particularly in the case of eGovernment, which involves the digitalisation of fundamental government services and processes, it is thus crucial to gain people's trust with transparent and comprehensible communication.
Transparent information about projects should strengthen trust in digital public services
The general public and businesses in Switzerland generally have a high level of trust in the state and politics. The authorities' online services likewise enjoy a high degree of trust (66% of the population and just under 75% of businesses trust them; source: 2019 national eGovernment study).
There has been growing public discussion about data scandals, cyberattacks and government services in the case of digitalisation in recent years. In some cases, this has led to uncertainty about new digital offerings and criticism of eGovernment projects. This was amply demonstrated by the clear rejection of the eID Act in March 2021, as well as the criticism of the widespread introduction of eVoting.
Digital Public Services Switzerland wishes to strengthen trust in eGovernment solutions by making eGovernment projects accessible to the general public in a transparent and comprehensible manner. To this end, it provides open information tailored to the intended audience about ongoing digitalisation projects and makes background knowledge available.
